Kinesthetic Intelligence – What It Is

June 16, 2011

Also known as “body smart”, Kinesthetic learners process information best through hands-on activities. These kids just naturally learn better or problem-solve by involving muscular movement–e.g. getting up and moving around into the learning experience–and are generally good at activities that require physical dexterity.

This being said, there are many different aspects of kinesthetic intelligence. Some kinesthetic kids gravitate toward dance, while others enjoy sports, and still others enjoy using this intelligence vis-a-vis playing a musical instrument, gardening, sculpting or playing video games.

Just because you’ve got a physically active child does not necessarily mean they’re flexing their kinesthetic “mind muscles”. In order to use this type of intelligence, the child must be using or developing a particular skill.
